The Rosslyn Hill Children's Chapel meets every Sunday during the Chapel service to give parents an opportunity to enjoy the service undisturbed, and to offer children exposure to the values of an open mind, a loving heart, and helping hands, and to express these values in discussion and creative activity. The goal is to acquaint children with the values of the Unitarian movement and to help the Chapel become a welcoming place for families.
The children's programme begins at the start of the adult service with a story from the minister. It then continues in an adjacent hall which is equipped with toys for infants and art equipment and books for older children.
We start our programme each week with the lighting of a chalice and a discussion about our experiences of the past week. Sometimes this involves talking about a new friendship, a birthday party or a new challenge at school. Following circle time we participate in an activity. This could be a discussion about a story, poetry reading or a creative writing activity. We do a lot of art work and very often this is connected with a holiday.
